Safety Score combines four Toronto Police Service open datasets: the year-to-date reported crime feed (current through today), the Major Crime Indicators dataset (detailed offence descriptions, published on a delay), the live Calls for Service feed (last 4 hours, refreshed every 15-20 minutes by TPS), and Neighbourhood Crime Rates (annual rates per 100,000 residents, 2014-2025). All are public ArcGIS services - no API keys.

Automatic updates

Crime statistics refresh every few hours automatically. Live police calls refresh every couple of minutes while you are on the page. Nothing is uploaded or maintained manually.

Live calls vs crime reports

Live calls show where police responded to a call for service - they are not confirmed crimes. TPS excludes privacy-sensitive calls such as domestic violence, sexual assault, and medical distress. Crime reports are verified reported offences and appear in the statistics.

Location accuracy

TPS deliberately offsets incident coordinates to the nearest intersection or block midpoint to protect victim privacy. Points on the map are approximate, not exact addresses. This site is not an official TPS product.
